A well-protected steel or concrete structure can make the difference between controlled evacuation and collapse. Fire-resistant coating helps critical building elements remain intact for longer under heat – allowing people to escape safely and limiting damage. At Vibol, we guide you to a paint system that meets all requirements. Functional, aesthetic and compliant with regulations.
How does a fire-resistant coating work?
Most are intumescent coatings – a type of flame-retardant paint that swells at high temperatures to form an insulating layer. This layer slows the heating of the steel or concrete underneath, allowing the load-bearing structure to hold out longer. That “time gain” is crucial: it enables safe evacuation and intervention. The required protection is expressed in minutes (e.g. RF30, RF60, RF120), depending on the building type and function. The thickness of the fire-resistant layer depends on that standard and the steel section’s profile thickness.
